Cultural Exchange Fridays: Nu-Metal

February 24, 2012|Ernest Wilkins

Another week, another chance to share a genre of music you may (or most likely, may not) be into. This week, we're diving into a steaming Jager-bomb fueled pile of nu-metal. With nu-metal pioneers Korn in town at the Congress tonight, and the reveal that Limp Bizkit signed to Cash Money (they really DID take over for the '99 AND the 2000, didn't they?), we felt it was only proper to showcase the best of a genre that Trevor Baker of the Guardian summed up as "...loud, angry and vivid as a bruise. It was the last guitar-based movement to create a genuine generation gap. Ageing punks didn't like it. Fans of traditional rock music didn't like it. And old metal fans absolutely hated it. The only people who liked it, in fact, were hordes of teenagers who, let's not forget, rock'n'roll was actually invented for."
