$200-$500 fine for using neighbor's trash bin? Believe it

Gearing up for some spring cleaning soon? Just make sure you dump all your trash in your own containers.

One resident voiced concern on neighborhood-centric site EveryBlock about their neighbor improperly dumping trash and furniture on their side of the alley.

If that problem happens to you, Streets and Sanitation Department spokesman Matt Smith advised contacting 3-1-1 to report it. A ward supervisor can be called out to assess the situation and take action.

Under the city's municipal code, it is unlawful to dump trash in somebody else's bin. Violators can be fined from $200 to $500.
