Mini-review: Maude's Liquor Bar

West Loop gets a little French flavor, both in the food and liquor departments

Maude's Liquor Bar
840 W. Randolph St. 312-243-9712
Rating: !!! (out of four) Off to a good start

The scene: This French-inspired West Loop spot has dinner seating and a main bar downstars and a cozy second floor bar and lounge area. The (possibly trying too hard) decor is full of quirky flea market-esque finds and seating is tight. Be sure to make reservations or snag a bar spot early.

The drinks: Don't pass up one of the house smashes ($11), available with chartreuse, whiskey, Grand Marnier and more. The chartreuse smash quickly became our group's favorite. It's refreshing mint and fruit flavors had us wishing for summer.

Don't miss out… on sharing a few dishes. Split an order of the spreadable French onion fondue ($11) and smoky blackened Brussels sprouts ($7).

Bottom line… Maude's is worth the hype it's been getting. The vibe is polished and stylish without being too stuffy, and the cocktails are top-notch.
