Mini-review: The Owl

We think you should give a hoot about this new Logan Square bar

The Owl
2521 N. Milwaukee Ave. 773-235-5300
Rating: !!! 1/2 (out of four)

The scene:  Dark and cozy on a hot stretch of Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square, The Owl is located in the former home of a late-night nightclub. While the atmosphere and clientele has certainly changed (you won't find much dancing from the hipster crowd now), much has stayed the same, including an incredible 50-foot bar with a curious (and bathroom run-inducing) waterfall fountain behind it.

The drinks: The beer-centric spot doesn't serve food, so think ahead if you plan to drink heavily (or carry-in from a nearby restaurant). The draft and bottled beer slection includes a little something for everyone from Stella to Three Floyds to Framboise. Daily drink specials include $2 and $3 beers on Tuesdays.

The bottom line: Despite only being open for a few weeks, The Owl was packed on a recent Friday night by 9:30 p.m. The music was good and the people were friendly. Did we have to wait for service? Sure. And the wait probably got worse as the clocked dragged on. Thanks to its late-night license and Logan Square location, don't expect the buzz around The Owl to go away any time soon--this hangout is going to continue to draw a neighborhood crowd.
