Mini-review: Which Wich?

We let our imaginations run wild at this anything-you-want sandwich shop

Which Wich?
108 N. State St. 312-658-0030
Rating: !!! (out of 4) Off to a good start

The scene: Located in the Loop's Block 37 pedway, Which Wich? works a bit differently than your average sandwich shop. First, pick a paper bag from one of 10 sandwich categories (turkey, veggie, breakfast). Then, grab a Sharpie and check off whether you'd like white or wheat bread, toasted or cold preparation, extras such as double meat or avocado and toppings from pepper jack to horseradish mayo to sauerkraut. Then head to the register to hand over your bag and pay.

The food: With a total of 50-plus sandwiches to choose from, it's hard to get bored here. Our toasted TBR (turkey, bacon and ranch) on wheat with provolone and avocado had an excellent bread-to-filling ratio, smoky bacon crumbles and not too much sauce.

Be sure not to miss ... the paper-bag art on the walls near the soda machine.

Bottom line: In the grand scheme of quick-service sandwiches, we'd say Which Wich? has more choices than Potbelly, fresher-tasting ingredients than Subway and hefter sandwich fillings than Jimmy John's. We'll be back.
