Mini-review: Breakfast at Grahamwich

We start off our day with some seriously satisfying sanwiches

Rating:!!! (out of four) Off to a good start

The scene: Graham Elliot's River North sandwichery Grahamwich is as quiet as can be in the morning, the polar opposite of the frenzied lunch hour. We’d take a seat at the communal table in back if we didn’t fear the staff would hear our every bite.

The food: The eatery opened in December with a pastry case stocked by Lincoln Park’s Fritz Pastry, but two panini made with Fritz's near-perfect croissants recently joined the a.m. lineup.

Our favorite: The pastrami with gruyere is pure melty, salty deliciousness. We’d get it again and again over the banana Nutella, which is a classic combo but not quite as satisfying. The inevitable shower of croissant flakes that results means you should think twice before eating one at your desk.

Bottom line: At $5 a pop, these breakfast sandwiches will be easier to make a habit out of than Grahamwich’s $10 lunchtime sandwiches.
