Chill, hockey fans: It can't get worse than a dead duck, right?

Throwing dead animals on the ice at a hockey game could get out of hand

December 27, 2011

Dead octopi. Sharks. Plastic rats. Frisbees. Hats. They've all been thrown onto the ice at a hockey game as fans either celebrate an achievement or show their displeasure.

Now, we can add a dead duck to the list.

During a San Jose Sharks-Anaheim Ducks game Monday, a fan—presumably supporting San Jose—threw a dead duck onto the ice at HP Pavilion.

Let's hope the tradition doesn't take hold at the United Center, or fans just might start throwing these things on the ice based on the Blackhawks' upcoming schedule.

Blackhawks vs. L.A. Kings, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday

We have several options here: plastic crowns from the Dollar Store's toy section, the kings from a deck of cards or, our personal favorite, the creepy Burger King mascot, preferably alive.

Blackhawks vs. Detroit Red Wings, 7:30 p.m. Friday

This is a tough one, but we're settling on red-wing blackbirds. Although, let's be honest. Nothing beats the "DE-TROIT SUCKS" chant.

Blackhawks vs. Edmonton Oilers, 7:30 p.m. Monday

We're tempted to say a greased-up male caster member from "Jersey Shore," but how about BP credit cards? That way we can protest two evil entities at once.

Blackhawks vs. Colorado Avalanche, 7:30 p.m. Jan. 6

Oh, we better not go there.
