Chicago's most social airport?

December 13, 2011|Tracy Swartz | RedEye

Chicago isn't quite the Second City when it comes to social travelers.

O'Hare placed third in a survey released Tuesday by Facebook, which tallied the number of social media check-ins at major airports between August and November.

Los Angeles International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport topped the list of the world's top 25 most social airports. Midway didn't make the list.

O'Hare is the third busiest airport in the world, according a report released earlier this year by the Airports Council International, which computed passenger traffic.

O'Hare saw 66.6 million passengers in 2010, according to the Airports Council. Atlanta's airport topped that list as well, with 89.3 million passengers.

The rest of the top 10 airports in the Facebook survey are:

>> San Francisco International Airport

>> Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

>> Denver International Airport

>> Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport in Australia

>> Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

>> McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas

>> Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok
