Cubby Bear hosting Tea Party event Thursday

December 07, 2011|By Jim Walsh, RedEye

The monthly meeting of the Chicago Tea Party is coming to Wrigleyville.

Rep. Joe Walsh of McHenry is scheduled as the keynote for the event, which is being held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cubby Bear, according to the Chicago Tea Party website.

The Tea Party favorite, who entered Congress in January, is known for fiery rhetoric and often appears on cable news and is written about in political blogs and websites. At an event last month in Gurnee, he said supporters of the Occupy Wall Street movement against income inequality were "spoiled, pampered, unfocused, clueless young people." Earlier that month, he apologized after a "heated discussion" with an attendant of a meeting with constituents, the Tribune reported.

Walsh is a member of the oversight and government reform, homeland security, and small business committees in the House and a member of the Tea Party caucus.

According to the Chicago Tea Party website, Walsh is going to discuss the latest news about what is happening in Washington, D.C., and Illinois.
