Pain in the Neckbeard

December 04, 2011|RedEye

Kyle Orton's triumphant return to Soldier Field wasn't so triumphant Sunday.

Orton checked into the game to start the second quarter after Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Tyler Palko was pulled.

On Orton's first play, the Chiefs got tricky, trying a flea flicker. But when Orton unloaded a pass intended for Jon Baldwin, his hand hit Bear Major Wright on his follow through.

Orton went down immediately, clutched his right index finger, then stood up and motioned to the Chiefs sideline while holding his hand awkwardly.

He left the game and didn't return with a dislocated finger.

So, the much-anticipated matchup of a former Bears quarterback vs. the Bears didn't materialize. Maybe next time.
