West Englewood sees 3 homicides in 2 weeks

West Englewood has recorded three homicides in the past two weeks, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

A 20-year-old man was shot to death Sunday in the 6200 block of South Damen Avenue, police said. Six days earlier, a 26-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7300 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

On Nov. 19, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1500 block of West 71st Street, according to officials.

West Englewood has seen 24 homicides so far this year, including four this month, data shows. The South Side community area recorded 28 homicides last year, RedEye determined.

In Austin, a 17-year-old boy was shot to death Monday in the 5500 block of West Cortland Street, officials said. A day earlier, a 38-year-old man was fatally shot in the 4900 block of West Hubbard Street, police said.

Austin has logged 27 homicides so far this year, RedEye data shows. The West Side community area saw 23 homicides last year, according to RedEye data.

Citywide, gunshot homicides were recorded in the last two weeks in Auburn Gresham and the Near West Side, according to officials. Meanwhile, a 4-year-old Gage Park boy died Friday from wounds sustained from child abuse, police said.

Thirty-six homicides have been logged so far in November. Police recorded 32 homicides in November last year, RedEye found.
