Seven homicides were recorded Nov. 5, making it the deadliest day of the year so far, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.
At 2:10 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot to death in the 1300 block of South Troy Street in North Lawndale, officials said.
About an hour-and-a-half later, a 19-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1100 block of North Ashland Avenue in West Town, according to police.
At about noon, a 34-year-old man was shot to death in the 300 block of North Pine Avenue in Austin, police said.
Nearly two hours later, a man was beaten to death in the 3700 block of West Jackson Boulevard in East Garfield Park, according to officials.
At 5 p.m., two men and one woman, each 21 years old, were shot to death in the 400 block of East 87th Street in Chatham, police said.
The second deadliest of day of the year was July 29, when six people were fatally shot in separate incidents, RedEye data shows.
Meanwhile, Auburn Gresham, Riverdale and Roseland each have logged more than one homicide this month, according to RedEye data.
In Riverdale, four men were shot to death Nov. 2 in the 500 block of East 130th Street, police said.
In Auburn Gresham, a man was fatally shot in the 1400 block of West 84th Street and a 54-year-old man was shot to death in the 9000 block of South Halsted Street on Nov. 10. Six days earlier, a 55-year-old woman was beaten to death in the 8800 block of South Wallace Street, police said.
In Roseland, a 26-year-old man was shot to death Nov. 9 in the 200 block of West 113th Street, police said. Five days earlier, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 300 block of West 104th Place, according to officials.
Citywide, gunshot homicides have been recorded in the last two weeks in Gage Park, the Lower West Side, New City, Washington Heights, Washington Park, West Pullman and Woodlawn, RedEye data shows.
Meanwhile, a 54-year-old woman was strangled to death Nov. 2 in Uptown; a 47-year-old man died from asphyxia Nov. 3 in Albany Park; and a 39-year-old man died of sharp force injuries Nov. 7 in Oakland, according to officials.
Twenty-seven homicides have been logged so far in November. Police recorded 32 homicides in November last year, RedEye found.
