The makers of "Strike Back" and Cinemax have cleared up one cliffhanger from the Season 1 finale: Sgt. Michael Stonebridge stays with the military unit called Section 20.
Both Philip Winchester, who plays Stonebridge, and Sullivan Stapleton, who stars as Stonebridge's partner, Damien Scott, will be back for Season 2, Cinemax announced Thursday. The buff buddies make quite the dynamic duo as counter-espionage operatives carrying out covert missions all over the world.
Also returning are Rhashan Stone as Major Oliver Sinclair and Michelle Lukes as Sgt. Julia Richmond. Guest stars will be announced later.
Stonebridge was contemplating leaving Section 20 after learning that his wife was pregnant at the end of Season 1. I guess he still could leave but still be around. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out when the series returns next summer. Production for the 10-episode second season gets underway in January in South Africa.
In the thrilling first season, former U.S. Special Forces operative Scott joined the British counter-terrorist unit Section 20 to foil the plans of an international terrorist. Cinemax currently is doing an encore run of the first season. Episode 3 airs at 9 p.m. Friday. You can watch all Season 1 episodes at on MAXGO and Max On Demand.
EPISODE 3 Written by Frank Spotnitz; directed by Bill Eagles. Section 20 tracks Latif's known associates to Cape Town, South Africa. They capture and interrogate an accomplice who leads them to an armored car company that recently had a brutal and suspicious robbery in which no money was stolen. Col. Grant recognizes one of the attackers as vicious mercenary and former IRA member Daniel Connolly (Liam Cunningham). After researching the company's client list, they surmise that the target may be defense contractor ATAT. The unit warns CEO Kenneth Bratton (Alistair Petrie) that the attack may not have been a random robbery, but he does not reveal that he already is being blackmailed by Connolly. Meanwhile, Scott and Stonebridge pursue Connolly's new hacker. After an accident, Scott must impersonate the hacker, only to find that Connolly's apprehensive team may be suspicious of him.
